Meet the artist behind the lens.

Self-Portrait, 2021

I’m a self-taught photographer and an avid bookworm — curiosity is my north star. My work lies at the confluence of play and deliberation, juxtaposing the creative flow with conscious edits. It’s an exploration on the interplay between the mind and body, on how cognition requires a deep connection between the two, and how physicality shapes emotional nuance.

Mostly though, I create the images I want to see. I dance the line between impressionism and abstractionism, drawn to colors and textures and balanced asymmetry, and driven to explore the fluidity and intentionality of metamorphosis.

My Approach

Photography gives me a space to simply be, to dwell in the flow state of creation. It's rare that I have a plan or preconceived image. I'd rather embrace serendipity in the moment.

What I use

My current setup is a Panasonic GH4 and a 25mm prime lens (equivalent to 50mm full-frame). Occasionally, I dig out the backdrop and lights, but typically I work with natural light. There's something magical about flowers in sunlight.

I shoot full manual. For one thing, autofocus doesn’t work well when your camera is upside down. But I also enjoy the challenge of adapting to changing light, without the computing assist.

And yes, while some of my images are utterly fantastical, every one of them is captured in camera.

Why color is key

Color is the language of daydreams. It speaks to us without words; it shapes our emotions; it's one of the most subjective parts of our reality.

I think it was almost inevitable that color would shape my work as indelibly as it has.
